Seton Hall Law Honors Three at 'Woman of Substance' Forum
Seton Hall University School of Law's Women's Law Forum hosted the annual “Woman of Substance” event on Feb., 27 at the Robert Treat Hotel In Newark. The event, in the hotel's Crystal Ballroom, honored Seton Hall Law alumnae who exemplify what it means to be a successful, empowered, and strong Seton Hall lawyer, the school said in a release. The night honored: Linda Foster, class of 1995, of the Federal Public Defender's Office for the District of New Jersey; Melissa Provost, class of 1998, of University Hospital; and Essex County Superior Court Judge Sallyanne Floria, class of 1978.
|Dalton Named to Home Builders Committee
Steven M. Dalton, a partner with Giordano, Halleran & Ciesla in Red Bank, has been appointed to the Legal Action Committee of the National Association of Home Builders. The committee reviews and recommends monetary assistance from the Legal Action Fund for cases of national significance to the housing industry and works with members and property owners on land use and environmental cases in state and federal courts. Founded in the early 1940s, the NAHB works to ensure that housing is a national priority and that homeowners and tenants have access to safe, decent and affordable housing. Dalton's practice focuses on environmental and land use law relating to real estate development and corporate transactions. He handles environmental permitting; regulatory compliance; remediation and redevelopment of contaminated sites; underground storage tank compliance; water, sewer and other related approvals, and municipal land use matters. He also handles due diligence and environmental aspects of real estate and commercial transactions.
|Hudson Bar Foundation Offering Scholarships
The Hudson County Bar Foundation announced it will award scholarships to students attending or accepted to law school for the September 2019–May 2020 term. Students must: be bona fide residents of Hudson County; demonstrate financial need; provide two current letters of recommendation; and account for appropriate academic standards. The foundation has invited applicants to send an email to [email protected] for an application, or write to the Hudson County Bar Foundation Scholarship Committee, 583 Newark Avenue, Jersey City, New Jersey 07306, or call (201) 798-4708. Applications are due by April 6, 2019. Members and families of the Hudson County legal community have funded these 50 scholarships, according to a release.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
