Essex Bar Installs 122nd President and New Officers
The Essex County Bar Association on April 29 held its annual election of officers and trustees, inducted new president Matthew S. Schultz and honored six Essex attorneys for outstanding achievement. The event took place at the Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange, with nearly 500 organization members and guests in attendance, according to a release. Schultz, senior counsel for litigation at Schindler Elevator Corp., intends to develop the presence of corporate counsel in the association and has begun coordinating with the Association of Corporate Counsel and other groups, , the release said. Schultz was sworn in as president by R. Benjamin Cohen, retired presiding Chancery Part judge. Essex County Assignment Judge Sallyanne Floria administered the oath of office to the officers and trustees for 2019-2020: Kevin G. Walsh of Gibbons, president-elect; Eileen O'Connor of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, vice president; Shoshana Schiff of McManimon, Scotland and Baumann, treasurer; and G. Glennon Troublefield of Carella Byrne Cecchi Olstein Brody & Agnello, secretary. Trustees for 2019-20 include: Matthew S. Adams, Donna M. Cameron, James DiGiulio, Carmen Diaz Duncan, Sandra C. Fava, Denice P. Gilchrist, retired Judge Harriet Klein, Marc D. Miceli, Anita Mignone-Lazaro, Arthur M. Owens, Michael J. Rankin and Mauro G. Tucci Jr. In the Young Lawyers Section, Jessica A. Diamond was sworn in as chairperson, and Thomas J. DeCataldo Jr. as trustee. “Attorney Achievement Award” recipients included: Angel A. Iuso of Connell Foley (civil trial attorney); Robert C. Scrivo of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey (criminal trial attorney); David S. Carton of Mandelbaum Salsburg (family law attorney); Paul G. Jemas of the Law Offices of Paul G. Jemas (general practice trial attorney); and Thomas J. DeCataldo Jr. of Skoloff & Wolfe and Cory J. Rothbort of Sellar Richardson (Young Lawyers Section achievement awards). Glenn F. Scotland received the “Samuel S. Saiber Professional Achievement Award.” The Legal Department of Wyndham Hotels and Resorts Inc. received the “Bernard J. Kuttner Pro Bono Achievement Award.” U.S. District Judge Madeline Cox Arleo received the “Walter Lucas Special Merit Award.”
|O'Toole Scrivo Endows Seton Hall Law Program
Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark received a $500,000 gift from O'Toole Scrivo Fernandez Weiner Van Lieu to sponsor the Denis F. McLaughlin Advanced Trial Advocacy Workshop, which will launch in January 2020, according to a release. The workshop is named for Seton Hall Law Professor Denis F. McLaughlin. The gift was announced at Seton Hall Law's annual Alumni Gala on May 10, the release said. “Seton Hall Law is incredibly grateful to Kevin O'Toole (Class of '89) and Thomas P. Scrivo (Class of '89) for giving back in a way that advances our mission to produce outstanding lawyers,” said Dean Kathleen M. Boozang. “This capstone experience honors the impact Professor McLaughlin has had on thousands of students. We are thrilled that Denis will be the founding director of the Workshop.”
|Seiden Sworn in as NJSBA Family Law Section Chair
Sheryl J. Seiden, founding partner of Seiden Family Law in Cranford, was sworn in as chair of the State Bar Association's Family Law Section. The ceremony took place on May 16 at the organization's annual meeting at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City. Seiden said she will strive to strengthen and grow the section through monitoring legislative and administrative proposals, rules and statutory changes, by seeking to improve bench-bar relations, and by educating the public on family law issues. The section “is so vitally important to the successful practice of family law in the state of New Jersey, and I'm honored to have been given this opportunity to lead the organization in this capacity,” Seiden said in a statement.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
