Evelyn Padin, president of the New Jersey State Bar Association, will receive the Margarita Echevarria Trailblazer of the Year Award from the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey (HBA-NJ).

Padin will receive the award on June 22 at the HBA-NJ's 38th annual scholarship gala and awards dinner at The Legacy Castle in Pompton Plains.

The award is named after the HBA-NJ's first president, and pays tribute to Echevarria's courage and foresight as a trailblazer for New Jersey Latinx lawyers. Individuals who win the award are recognized for advancing the cause of Latinx lawyers and helping to create opportunities for the Latinx community as a whole.

“Evelyn deserves this award because she is blazing trails as the first Latina lawyer to take the helm of the New Jersey State Bar Association, which has existed for 120 years and is the largest bar association in the state,” said Julia A. Lopez, president of the HBA-NJ.

“Not only is she an entrepreneur with a successful private practice and owner of several thriving businesses, she is a leader in the legal community and a zealous advocate for the Latinx community at large,” Lopez said.
