Sills Cummis Welcomes Summer Interns

Sills Cummis & Gross in Newark welcomed Elissa L. Frank, Yaritza Urena-Mendez, Gianna Popola and Casey R. Seivright as summer legal interns. The program provides an opportunity for law students to hone their legal skills and gain experience, according to a statement issued by the firm, which this year continued a longstanding partnership with Rutgers Law School in Newark. The Charles J. Walsh Scholarship Fund was established by Sills Cummis in 2006 in memory of the late Judge Charles J. Walsh, who, prior to his appointment to Bergen County Superior Court, practiced at the firm for 17 years. Walsh was also an adjunct professor at the law school. The Rutgers School of Law–Minority Student Program serves students of any race or ethnicity who are members of groups that are underrepresented in the legal profession, and who have faced discrimination or overcome social and economic hardships, the firm said.

Frank is the firm's 2019 Rutgers Law School-Minority Student Program summer intern. She graduated with a B.A. from The College of New Jersey in 2018 and completed her first year as a law student at Rutgers Law School in Newark. She is interning in the firm's Newark office.

Urena-Mendez is the firm's 2019 Charles J. Walsh Scholar. She graduated with a B.A. from Seton Hall University in 2018 and completed her first year as a law student at Rutgers Law School in Newark. She is interning in the firm's Newark office.

Popola graduated with a B.S. from Marist College in 2016 and completed her second year as a law student at Pace University School of Law. She is interning in the firm's Newark office.

Seivright graduated with a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 2018 and completed her first year as a law student at New York University School of Law. She is interning in the firm's New York office.

Fiore will also continue to develop her representations in Monmouth and Ocean counties, the firm said. Fiore previously served as a staff attorney, unit supervisor and a program manager with the Ocean-Monmouth Legal Services, a nonprofit organization providing legal assistance to low-income residents. “It's at the OMLS where I witnessed firsthand how important our assistance was, and remains, to people with fewer options than most others. And those experiences have prepared me to provide knowledgeable, compassionate and accurate counsel and guidance in life planning,” Fiore said in a statement.
