The legal implications of e-cigarettes to be probed at NJICLE webinar as vaping-related illnesses, deaths rise

  • The New Jersey state senate president wants to introduce legislation that would ban all electronic smoking devices, including nicotine cartridges and containers, and other vaping products.
  • The Trump administration is considering a ban on flavored e-cigarettes.
  • Officials are investigating more than 450 potential vaping-related lung illnesses—including nine in New Jersey.
  • Six deaths in the United States are associated with vaping and e-cigarette products.

At a time when the nation is grappling with a rising number of vaping-related lung illnesses and deaths, the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education will host a webinar on the legal implications of vaping and e-cigarettes this month.

The Sept. 24 program, titled "Vaping and E-Cigarettes: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," will feature Nashon Hornsby, assistant commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health, and Domenic B. Sanginiti Jr., a personal injury attorney at Stark and Stark in Lawrenceville who is leading litigation against Juul Labs Inc., maker of one of the most popular brands of e-cigarettes.

As new studies emerge on the dangers of e-cigarettes, parents, schools, businesses and smokers are starting to have legal questions. Hornsby and Sanginiti will discuss the latest developments, including New Jersey's law on the sale of e-cigarettes and their use in public places.  The presenters will explain e-cigarettes, the health risks, the rise of vaping and minors, among other topics.
