Laddey Clark Gala Marks 30th Anniversary
Laddey Clark & Ryan celebrated its 30 th anniversary with a gala on Sept. 26 at SkyView Golf Club in Sparta. More than 150 guests attended , including present and former attorneys and staff members, according to a release. Also in attendance were founding partners Richard Clark , Deborah Nicholson and retired Appellate Division Judge Lorraine Parker , as well as the family of the late Brian Laddey . New Jersey State Sen. Steven Oroho of the 24 th District and Sparta Township Manager William Close both made presentations to the firm, the release noted. |
Harris Appointed Hillside Township Attorney
Ellen M. Harris , who spent 12 years as chief legal officer at the Newark Housing Authority and now is senior counsel to Norris McLaughlin in Bridgewater, has been appointed Township Attorney/Law Director for Hillside. She will be responsible for all legal matters for the township, including the supervision of several outside counsel firms for specialty matters. Hillside, located in Union County, has approximately 300 employees with a budget of $44 million, a release from the firm noted. Mayor Dahlia Vertreese said in a statement: "I am happy to have Ellen on board. She has demonstrated capacity to handle our legal issues, and has already begun to establish relationships with the staff that indicate a path to approachable and helpful solutions for Hillside." Harris has a strong background in municipal and federal law, contract negotiations, arbitration, mediation, transactional real estate, and eminent domain matters, the release noted. Harris earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1986 and her B.S. from Bucknell University in 1981. Harris said in a statement that she was "honored" by the selection. "Hillside is a great community with an administrative team that works hard to serve the best interests of the Township and its people," she said. |
Rivera Receives Burlington Bar's Criscuolo Award
Kathryn A. Rivera , a Parker McCay associate attorney in Mount Laurel and chair of the firm's Women's Leadership Committee, was named this year's recipient of the Burlington County Bar Association's "Robert W. Criscuolo Award." Rivera was presented with the award at the association's "State Bar Night" on Sept. 26 at O'Connor's Restaurant in East Hampton. The award recognizes young lawyers who have demonstrated significant involvement and contributions to the association, community service and other civic activities, according to a release. It is named for the late Robert W. Criscuolo, a former Parker McCay partner. Rivera is a member of the medical malpractice defense litigation department at the firm. As Women's Leadership Committee chair, she directs and facilitates the planning and execution of events aimed at developing future leadership within the firm and the surrounding community. She is also a Burlington Bar young lawyer trustee, helping coordinate seminars and social events for the association. |
NJSBA Young Lawyers, LSNJ Launch 'Instant Aid' Program
The Young Lawyers Subcommittee of the New Jersey State Bar Association's Family Law Section is partnering with Legal Services of New Jersey in launching a program called "Instant Aid" to support low-income children and families by helping with access to transportation, food and covering rental needs through collecting food cards and Uber and Lyft cards. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
