Pro Bono Partnership Celebrates 22nd Anniversary Gala
On Oct. 16, Pro Bono Partnership held its 22 nd anniversary gala at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York. The event raised more than $1.5 million for the organization's programs, via donations from volunteer lawyers, law firm and corporate executives, and clients, it said. Ari Melber , MSNBC chief legal correspondent and anchor of " The Beat" hosted the event, where the partnership presented the 2019 "Pro Bono Champion Award" to honorees Samir A. Gandhi, anaging partner of Sidley Austin 's New York office, and the Mastercard Law, Franchise & Integrity . Tim Murphy , Mastercard's general counsel, accepted the award, noting that the company's nearly 20 years of working with the partnership, according to the release. Gandhi and his team recently worked with the organization's nonprofit client Docs for Tots. "Our firm is renewed every day by the work we do, and a predominant part of that is the work we do for those who need it most," said Gandhi, the release noted. Pro Bono Partnership received support from gala chair Eric I Cohen, general counsel of Terex Corporation , and dinner chairs and John L. Golden , executive vice president and general counsel of Athene Holding Ltd. Pro Bono Partnership executive director Nancy Eberhardt I'm proud of our mission and the work we do to help build capacity for organizations that are doing such valuable work in our communities. This work requires a lot of passion, commitment, and dedication from so many, including the 1,400 in-house and law firm volunteer attorneys who, each year, make the Pro Bono Partnership program possible. Our volunteers assisted nearly 900 nonprofits in the tristate area last year, providing $10 million in free legal services to the nonprofit community." |
Bergen Bar Swears In Young Lawyer Officers
The Bergen County Bar Association held a swearing-in ceremony for the Young Lawyers Section officers for 2019-20 at its dinner meeting on Sept. 16 at the Bonefish Grill in Paramus. Bergen County Assignment Judge Bonnie J. Mizdol swore in Sarah N. Gloates-Horta , who succeeds Toni Ann Marabello as president of the section, along with president-elect Kali A. Trahanas and fellow officers Gregory C. Ein , Matthew M. Nicodemo and Bodgan A. Kachur . |
TANJ Installs New Officers
The Trial Attorneys of New Jersey held its 52nd annual "Trial Bar Awards and Installation of Officers" reception on Oct. 17 at the Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange. Installed officers included John E. Hogan, president, of Wilentz Goldman & Spitzer; and Emily A. Kaller, president-elect, of Greenbaum Rowe Smith & Davis.
