VLJ Participates in 'Just Mercy' Screening Panel in Newark
Volunteer Lawyers for Justice participated in a special movie screening and panel discussion for "Just Mercy" on Dec. 17, 2019 at CityPlex 12 in Newark. The film is based on the memoir by Bryan Stevenson , founder of the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama. The panel discussion focused on criminal justice reform and reentry issues. Panelists were VLJ Executive Director Cathy Keenan , Newark Mayor Ras Baraka , New Jersey Institute for Social Justice Executive Director Ryan Haygood and Dennis Porter , founder and president of Prodigal Sons & Daughters Redirection Services. Janet A. Dickerson , CEO of Human Impact Solutions, moderated. Keenan said in a statement: "VLJ was honored to be part of such a powerful event and to work with such inspiring leaders. We all heard the clear call to action to work together and fight for justice for the most vulnerable members of our community."Peck Appointed Planning Board Attorney
Mark R. Peck , a partner in the Phillipsburg office of Florio Perrucci Steinhart & Cappelli , was appointed to a one-year term as attorney for the Bridgewater Township Planning Board. The board reviews and acts on subdivision and site plan applications, adopts of the township's master plan and makes recommendations to the Township Council. Peck has experience as a private and public entity defense litigator, and in land use and municipal law. He has represented the South Jersey Transportation Authority, Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, and the Edgewater Borough Planning Board, and currently is the attorney for the Hackettstown and the Montgomery zoning boards of adjustment. He is admitted in New Jersey, and is a member of the Warren County Bar Association. Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck , including one from Atlantic City, were appointed to leadership roles in the International Association of Gaming Advisors. Bill Downey of the firm's Atlantic City office was reappointed as general counsel, an officer position. He is co-chair of the gaming practice, and has more than 25 years of experience in the Atlantic City and Pennsylvania markets, handling regulatory, corporate and real estate matters for casinos, according to the firm. Greg Brower of the firm's Nevada offices was named to the association's board of trustees and will serve a three-year term. The IAGA was founded in 1980.This content has been archived. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
