Middlesex Bar Celebrates 50 Years of Admissions
The Middlesex County Bar Association honored members who have been admitted to practice law for 50 years or longer at a special reception on March 4 at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick. Guest speakers included Supreme Court Justice Barry T. Albin, former Middlesex County Assignment Judge Robert A. Longhi, and past associations presidents Robert C. Rafano and retired Judge Harriet E. Derman. Among the 105 bar members in this group, 50 were in attendance at the event, according to an announcement. Those in attendance were: Frank Lutz (admitted 1956); Malcolm Busch (1958); Hon. Robert Quackenboss (1959); Richard Plechner (1960); Samuel Inglese, Robert Longhi, Robert Rafano and Richard Rebeck (1962); Casper Boehm Jr., Fred Dubowsky, John Hoffman and John Kuhlthau (1963); William Flynn and Joseph Messina (1964); William Brigiani, Bertram Busch, Ronald Busch, Robert Dato, Alan Davis, Willard Geller, C. Judson Hamlin, Barnett Hoffman and John Keefe Sr. (1965); Stephen Barcan, Jeffrey Green and Joseph Schiappa (1966); Mark Busch, John DeNoia, Henry Gurshman and Thomas Hood (1967); George Hendricks Jr. (1968); Steven Altman, Joseph Benedict, Samuel Convery Jr., Mark Epstein, Michael Gast, Melvin Gelade, Gordon Golum, Terry Green, Louis Locascio, Vincent Maltese, Irwin Millinger and Joseph Rosta Jr. (1969); Jerome Bruder, Alan Cosner, Richard Galex, J. Energy Coalition Appoints Genova Burns as GC
Genova Burns in Newark was named general counsel to the New Jersey Energy Coalition, according to a firm announcement. Managing partner Angelo J. Genova and partner Rebecca Moll Freed will advise the organization on policy and legal issues facing the energy industry, including the state's Energy Master Plan. The firm has long "partnered with many of the companies that are members of the coalition, and we look forward to partnering with them to create a better energy future for New Jersey," coalition chair Ed Salmon said in a statement. Genova said in a statement that the firm "can have a direct impact on our environment and on protecting the interest of New Jersey consumers. … In order for New Jersey to retain its place as a national leader in energy development, the state needs to promote a sustainable in-state energy industry that meets transmission needs, spurs economic development, and creates jobs." Genova is the co-founder, managing partner and chairman of Genova Burns. Freed chairs the corporate political activity practice group and the nonprofits, trade associations and tax-exempt organizations practice groups.
Hudson Bar Foundation to Award Law School Scholarships
The Hudson County Bar Foundation will award scholarships to students who are attending law school or who have been accepted to law school for the September 2020 – May 2021 term. Members and families of the Hudson County legal community have funded the scholarship fund's 50 scholarships, the release said. Students must: be bona fide residents of Hudson County; demonstrate financial need; provide two current letters of recommendation; and account for appropriate academic standards. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
