The board of trustees of Bloomfield-based Partners for Women and Justice named Julie A. Murphy executive director of the organization, which advocates for low-income victims of domestic violence. Its programs help domestic violence victims secure restraining orders, safe visitation and custody arrangements, and fair orders of child support. The organization’s announcement said Murphy is a “strategic leader with a commitment to fostering the empowerment of others.” In her six years at Union County Legal Services, she represented clients in domestic violence and family law matters. She went on to become the head of strategy for Girl Scouts of the USA for 10 years. She then founded Oakwood Leadership. She holds a law degree from Brooklyn Law School and an undergraduate degree from Rutgers College. Board chairwoman Catherine Weiss said in a statement that Murphy “is committed to Partners’ mission and, with her varied experience, will bring a fresh perspective to the organization.”
