Central Pennsylvania-based Stevens & Lee has added to its geographic footprint in New Jersey, bringing on a group of commercial litigators from McElroy Deutsch Mulvaney & Carpenter to be based in a new Paramus office.
Salvatore Giampiccolo and Nicole DiBello were partners at McElroy Deutsch before making the move to Stevens & Lee, which the firm announced Tuesday. They are joined by John Visconi, now of counsel at Stevens & Lee, and associate Nicholas Eliades.
All four practiced together at McElroy Deutsch, but Visconi left that firm a little earlier than the rest, joining Kaufman Semeraro & Leibman as an associate in 2018 before rejoining his colleagues at Stevens & Lee this week.
According to Stevens & Lee CEO Ernie Choquette, opening an office in northern New Jersey has long been a goal for the firm. It already has an office in Princeton, with about 30 lawyers, and a presence in New York. Choquette was also named chairman of the firm in January.
"Opening an office in Northern New Jersey has been part of our strategic plan, and we're also looking forward to the opportunity to serve a wide range of clients within this market," Choquette said in a statement.
While New Jersey is currently under a stay-at-home order that precludes law firms from operating with fully staffed offices, Stevens & Lee said it has a temporary office space for the new group.
Giampiccolo's practice, which includes commercial litigation and commercial lending matters, involves clients in the automotive industry, including captive financial entities. He also works with financial institutions in loan transactions and related litigation, and represents clinical research organizations and life sciences companies.
DiBello works on corporate, real estate, commercial lending, franchise, general contract and transactional matters. She is also largely focused on the automotive industry, including manufacturers, captive finance companies and some startup vehicle manufacturers and distributors.
The new Stevens & Lee lawyers were not available for interviews.
Stevens & Lee/Griffin, based in Reading, Pennsylvania, is a unique platform of multiple businesses that include a number of nonlegal entities as well as the midsize law firm Stevens & Lee, which has about 180 lawyers. It also includes the Kent Franchise Law group, a boutique that handles franchising, distribution and intellectual property matters.
Across its footprint, Stevens & Lee/Griffin has 19 other offices in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Ohio, Virginia, Texas, South Carolina and Florida.
McElroy Deutsch lost another sizable group in February, when nine health care lawyers departed to join another New Jersey firm, midsize Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis. Most of them had come to McElroy in 2011 via its acquisition of 13-lawyer Kalison, McBride, Jackson & Robertson of Warren.
McElroy Deutsch managing partner Edward Deutsch did not respond to a request for comment on the group's departure.
