The Justice Department said Geoffrey Berman will step down as the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, and be replaced on an interim basis by U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito of the District of New Jersey.

After the late Friday announcement by U.S. Attorney William Barr, President Donald Trump said Jay Clayton, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, is being nominated to take on the post.
