The lawyer who knocked off the last restrictions on the use of law firm trade names thinks attorneys should spend more time thinking about the message their moniker relays.

There’s nothing wrong with the traditional sort of law firm name, derived from the names of partners, says Thomas Alvord of Salt Lake City’s LawHQ. But when a law firm wants to show that it is not bound by tradition, an unconventional name may be in order.
