The New Jersey Supreme Court's July 16 Action Plan for Equal Justice proposes requiring additional, focused continuing legal education anti-bias training: "The Supreme Court will revisit, refine, and adopt an 'elimination of bias' requirement as part of statewide mandatory Continuing Legal Education for judges and attorneys."

Commending this overdue action is easy. So is adding a few words to the Court Rules and setting the basic parameters of anti-bias and implicit bias lectures, now widespread thought industry and bar groups. Given the depth and breadth of the problem, however, we suggest that two hours of programing every two years may not have a meaningful positive effect.
