The pandemic didn't stop the New Jersey State Bar Foundation's (NJSBF) 9th Annual Juried Art Show from opening earlier this month. Visitors can meander through a 3D art gallery on the NJSBF's website and admire 39 works of art up close.

The virtual gallery is the next best thing to being in-person at the New Jersey Law Center, where the art show is normally held. Visitors can peruse the gallery, turning left and right at the click of an arrow, zipping around walls and zooming forward and back to view artwork mounted on walls and find out if it is for sale. The art gallery also provides a guided tour.

The artists include a diverse group of new and experienced attorneys, judges, paralegals, law office administrators, trustees and staff of the NJSBF and New Jersey State Bar Association.

The 39 pieces, which are in a variety of media, represent the most works to be accepted by the art show in its history. More than 60 people attended the opening. NJSBF Art Committee Chair Susanne Peticolas told attendees the committee was "blown away" by the number of submissions this year, considering it was during a pandemic, and by the quality and creativity of the work.

"As lawyers, we are accustomed to 'left brain' activity—logical, analytical, objective, rational functions. Tonight is an opportunity to celebrate on the 'right' side of the brain, and to explore the subjective, random and intuitive nature of ourselves," she said.

The art show is available at njsbf.org until Dec. 31.
