Cole Schotz Announces Recipient of 2020 Diversity Scholarship
Cole Schotz in Hackensack announced that Rutgers Law School student Bryan Medina is the recipient of the firm's 2020 diversity scholarship. Each year, Cole Schotz recognizes the achievements of a rising second-year, full-time law student by presenting a one-time $5,000 scholarship. Candidates are considered based on their demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity in the legal profession, academic achievement, and involvement in community services. According to the announcement, Medina was inspired to pursue a law degree after five years working with the Latino Commission on AIDS, a nonprofit organization that provides health care services to LGBTQ immigrants. Following his first year of law school, he interned with the New York State Division of Human Rights. Medina graduated from Hunter College with a B.A. in psychology and Russian language, and earned a Master of Science from Baruch College in industrial and organizational psychology. "Bryan's proven work in the community and efforts to promote equality make him extremely well-qualified to receive this year's scholarship," said Wendy Berger, co-chair of the firm's diversity committee and member of the real estate department, in a statement. "In making our selection, Bryan's interest in tackling discrimination and promoting equal access to employment opportunities stood out to us." Cole Schotz also works with the New Jersey Law Firm Group, a nonprofit corporation made up of law firms, law schools and public agencies, to promote inclusiveness and diversity in the legal profession.
