The Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct recommended a one-month suspension without pay for a municipal court judge for comments he made last year regarding physical violence against women to a defendant who appeared before him on multiple domestic violence charges.

Judge Steven Brister’s comments to the defendant during a video hearing were inappropriate for a judge, said the Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct in an answer letter dated Dec. 9 and signed by chair Virginia Long.
