Suit Over Predator's Contacts With Student on School-Issued Laptop Settles for $950K
Although the key events in the Collingswood case occurred in 2018, the case is a cautionary tale for the many school districts that have issued laptops to students for at-home instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Collingswood Board of Education has agreed to pay $950,000 to settle a suit over the sexual assault of a student by a man who contacted her over her school-issued laptop computer.
The suit claimed the school board failed to install controls that would limit the student's access to inappropriate sites, even after her parents expressed concerns to an administrator about her extracurricular use of the internet.
