After nearly a year of diminished returns, scaled-back expectations and delayed dreams due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Phil Murphy offered up a fresh start in his 2021 State of the State address to an empty Patriots Theater at the Trenton War Memorial.

It was, according to his top aides, the first virtual State of the State address by any New Jersey governor.
