On Jan. 6, 2020, for the second time in our country’s history, the U.S. Capitol, where our country’s legislative branch is housed, was stormed and desecrated. The first time was in August 1814 by British troops during the War of 1812. Then, it was a foreign power with whom we were at war and who was bent on destroying one of our country’s sacred buildings. On January 6 of this year, the Capitol was stormed by Americans who did so with the purpose of delaying or even preventing the Constitution’s requirement set forth in the 12th Amendment— that the votes of the Electoral College be officially counted to certify the results of the 2020 Presidential election. This insurrection was fomented and supported by the President of the United States.

The New Jersey chapter of the National Employees Lawyer’s Association (“NELA/NJ”) consists of attorneys who are dedicated to protecting the rights and dignity of employees. More importantly, when we were sworn in as attorneys, we all took an oath to uphold the Constitution.
