The  parents of a child who suffered severe brain damage during delivery received $7 million to settle their Passaic County medical malpractice suit, Rahim v. Balazs, M.D., on Feb. 11.

Tanisha Rahim was born on April 30, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson after her mother, Jasmin Akther, was in labor for more than 12 hours. The child was born blind in both eyes, suffered cerebral palsy, chronic lung disease and an abnormally small head. In addition, she could not sit up, walk or crawl, could not speak, and required tube feeding and constant respiratory suction, said Stewart Leviss of Berkowitz, Lichtstein, Kuritsky, Giasullo & Gross in Roseland, who represented Akther and the child’s father, Absar Rahim.
