The latest issue of Respect, the New Jersey State Bar Foundation's (NJSBF) diversity newsletter and a resource for students, takes a look at the status of several recent rulings that have implications for immigrants, LGBTQ individuals and other minorities.

One article provides an update on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which allows undocumented immigrants who were brought to this country as children to apply for lawful status that exempts them from deportation and allows them to work in the U.S.

In another piece, the U.S. Supreme Court's 2020 landmark decision on LGBTQ rights, Bostock v. Clayton County, is examined. In that case, the Court ruled Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, includes sexual orientation and gender identity. Although Bostock deals with employment discrimination, the Court's decision has far-reaching implications in other areas as well, including healthcare, housing and education.
