Calling the case’s history “tortured,” a federal judge in Newark denied a motion for class certification, dealing a blow to plaintiffs in a nearly 11-year-old suit claiming some Volvo cars had defective sunroofs.

In denying the plaintiffs’ bid for class certification, U.S. District Judge Madeline Cox Arleo said the group met the requisite standards for numerosity, typicality and adequacy but failed to show that questions of law or fact predominate over individual questions.
