The Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey (AFBNJ) believes the identification and elimination of bias and discrimination in the federal justice system should be a national priority, a goal we support unconditionally. We also firmly believe that federal judges must be held accountable when their actions in fact demonstrate bias or discrimination, and we will always support efforts to address those actions when they are properly documented.

Without detracting from either of those tenets, the Association takes serious issue with the findings of this federal sentencing study that find fault with Senior United States District Judge Stanley R. Chesler, who has served the District of New Jersey for nearly 20 years as a District Judge and 15 years before that as a Magistrate Judge, and who has earned an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, impartiality, and fairness.
