While surveillance cameras have reached into many areas of life, hospital operating rooms are still mostly camera-free. A few proponents want to have cameras routinely record every operation, but lawyers’ reaction has been lukewarm.

On Tuesday, legislators in South Korea voted to require surveillance cameras in operating rooms as a means to reduce the number of surgical errors. And in the near future, lawmakers in Wisconsin are expected to unveil legislation requiring hospitals to videotape operations.
