Lawsuits are emerging around the country over deaths and serious injuries caused by the medicinal use of poppy seeds.

Seeking a remedy for anxiety, arthritis or diarrhea, people are making tea from unwashed poppy seeds, resulting in a brew that contains morphine and codeine, litigants state. Now, suppliers of the seeds are facing suits over alleged harms linked to their products.
