A New Jersey federal judge presiding over a Fair Debt Collection Practices Act lawsuit has rejected a claim by a law firm that collects mortgage debts that it does not meet the definition of a "debt collector" under the act.
U.S. District Judge Robert Kugler of the District of New Jersey denied defendant law firm Shapiro & Denardo's motion to dismiss plaintiff Lois Evans-Ennis' lawsuit against the firm.
