The New Jersey State Bar Association hosted a CLE webinar, "Best Practices for the Recovery and Defense of Attorney Fee Claims in State and Federal Court," on Sept. 29, moderated by Joel Schneider, a retired U.S. magistrate judge and counsel at Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads. Speakers included Michael C. Zogby, partner and deputy leader of Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath's national products liability and mass torts practice in Florham Park, and co-chair of the firm's health and life sciences litigation team; Michael Coren, partner at Cohen, Placitella & Roth in Philadelphia; Laura Mattiacci, a partner at Console Mattiacci Law in Philadelphia and Moorestown; and Kenneth Sharperson, a partner at Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby in Bedminster. The panelists addressed the benefits to attorneys and their clients of seeking fee awards, and the statutes that specifically provide for such awards. The speakers shared their knowledge and experiences in applying for and receiving an award of counsel fees, and provided plaintiffs, defense, and judicial perspectives, according to the release.
