Sixteen law professors, including University of California Berkeley School of Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky and J. Maria Glover of Georgetown University Law Center, have filed amicus briefs supporting dismissal of a controversial bankruptcy case involving thousands of talcum powder lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson.
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Michael Kaplan, who is overseeing the Chapter 11 case in New Jersey, granted motions to file the three amicus briefs at a hearing Thursday. The law professors, who collectively specialize in bankruptcy and constitutional law, as well as complex litigation, all insisted that the case should be dismissed.
