Amid speculation that Sarah Palin’s libel suit against the New York Times could bring about a change in the standard for defamation of public officials, some media lawyers say that the case is unlikely to be a vehicle for such changes.

The start of Palin’s trial in the Southern District of New York has prompted a renewed focus on efforts to revise the standard for proving defamation of a public figure.
