This year marks our state constitution’s 75th anniversary. The “new” 1947 Constitution was a widely-respected product of demand for modernization of the “horse-and-buggy” 1844 document, wise political strategy and bipartisan compromise. It gave us modern judiciary and executive branches and updated constitutional rights.

The 50th anniversary was celebrated by a New Jersey Network/Rutgers documentary, a revised book on the constitution, law review symposia, CLE programs, and more. These tributes educated many people about our state constitution and provided lasting research sources on its history, provisions and interpretation.
