A mistrial was declared Wednesday after a jury deadlocked in the case of a man allegedly rendered a quadriplegic by officers from the Camden County Police Department.

The mistrial came after 10 days of trial in U.S. District Court in Camden in a suit by Xavier Ingram, who claimed he was paralyzed when Sgt. Jeremy Merck stepped on his neck during an arrest. Lawyers for the department dispute that account and say that Ingram was paralyzed in a slip-and-fall on wet pavement.
