For more than a century, Pine Valley Golf Club allowed only male members. According to a civil suit filed by the state's attorney general, that means the club "engaged in unlawful public accommodation, employment and housing discrimination on the basis of sex."

The suit, brought by Matthew J. Platkin, acting attorney general, and Rosemary DiSavino, deputy director of the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights, charges Pine Valley Golf Club with violations of the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.
