During his testimony before the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee on Tuesday, acting Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin addressed the state and federal laws tying his hands when it comes to off-duty cannabis use by New Jersey police officers.

In his first appearance before the committee since being appointed to his position in February, Platkin laid out several key areas of focus for the Department of Law and Public Safety. Combating gun violence, advancing racial justice, strengthening community relations, and protecting New Jersey residents in court all made the list of top priorities for the department.
