New Jersey Chief Justice Stuart Rabner appointed Superior Court Judges Maritza Berdote Byrne, Joseph L. Marczyk, and Avis Bishop-Thompson to temporary assignments with the Appellate Division.

Berdote Byrne was nominated to the Superior Court by Gov. Chris Christie in 2013. She graduated from Rutgers Law School in Newark and worked at UBS Financial Services and McCusker, Anselmi, Rosen & Carvelli. She was president of the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey in 1999 and 2000 and taught appellate advocacy as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University School of Law in 2003. Berdote Byrne served as director for the Jersey Battered Women’s Shelter, a Morris County Bar Association Legal Advocacy Project, representing battered women pro bono in family court.
