We cannot help but be jolted and alarmed by the juxtaposition of two recent headlines: ”Man with Pistol, Crowbar and Zip Ties Is Arrested Near Kavanaugh’s Home” and “Political Sniping Accompanies Delay of Bill to Bolster Security for Justices.” If the horrid and outrageous shooting death of U.S. District Judge Esther Salas’ son Daniel and the serious injuries sustained by her husband Mark Anderl more than a year ago at the hands of a deranged litigant who had appeared before Judge Salas (and found her home address on line) were not enough, we’ve now all seen the reports of the arrest of another deranged individual near Justice Supreme Court Justice Bret Kavanaugh’s home with a gun, ammo and other weapons.

The head of the U.S. Marshals Service said that federal judges were the targets of more than 4,500 threats and inappropriate communications in 2021.
