In January Gov. Murphy, anticipating that the U.S. Supreme Court might take the egregious step of overruling Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey and eliminate a woman’s federal constitutional right to an abortion, signed the Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act. This law codified the state constitutional right to an abortion, recognized in Right to Choose v. Byrne in 1982.

Now that the federal constitutional right women had possessed for 50 years has been eliminated, Murphy has signed a package of bills to make New Jersey a beacon of reproductive freedom for not only its citizens, but also for those who travel here to receive “reproductive health care services” (including pregnancy, contraception and termination of pregnancy) unavailable in their own states. Protections for both patients and providers are established.
