A 61-year-old woman injured while walking in front of the Westin Hotel in Jersey City settled her personal injury suit, Kreusch v. Westin Jersey City Newport, for $1.75 million in May 2022 just weeks prior to a scheduled trial.

On April 26, 2018, plaintiff Laura Kreusch was on her lunch break from her job nearby at JP Morgan Chase where she worked as a mortgage loan officer. Kreusch's fall on a raised section of sidewalk was captured on a hotel video surveillance camera.

Kreusch was transported by ambulance to Jersey City Medical Center, where she was diagnosed with a fractured right elbow. She subsequently underwent surgery to repair the fracture, which required implantation of a titanium plate and several screws, the suit alleged. Following that surgery, Kreusch developed an infection which ultimately resulted in additional surgery, according to her lawyer, James Pagliuca of Gill & Chamas in Woodbridge.
