A Camden, New Jersey, federal judge certified a class action suit over the New Jersey Department of Education’s alleged routine failure to resolve special education disputes with parents on a timely basis.

Class members, who are parents of children with disabilities, are hopeful that certification will help the department begin meeting the 45-day deadline, which is set under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, for conducting due process hearings in disputes over how their children are educated.
