A New York law firm is battling claims that it engaged in the unauthorized practice of law when it advised clients on regulatory matters in Connecticut, New Jersey and Illinois.

Cullen and Dykman’s energy company clients were fined $5 million in Connecticut and paid $4.5 million in New Jersey to resolve claims that contracts and marketing materials they used to sign up residential gas and electric customers did not comply with state laws.
