A New Jersey appeals court dismissed a Social Host Liability Act claim, along with common-law negligence and emotional distress claims, over an intoxicated man’s drowning death at a party.

In a published Dec. 6 opinion, the New Jersey Appellate Division reversed a lower court’s denial of summary judgment to the party host and an attendee, holding that the SHLA does not apply to the drowning death of 26-year-old former Marine Raniel Hernandez.
