New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced the appointment of Sundeep Iyer, a current adviser to the attorney general and previously a Big Law senior associate, to replace Rachel Wainer Apter as the director of the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights, the state agency charged with protecting the civil rights of New Jersey residents.

The appointment was approved by Gov. Phil Murphy and the New Jersey Commission on Civil Rights, as required by statute. Iyer will begin his new role on Jan. 3, 2023, according to a release by the Office of the Attorney General.
