We applaud the action by Congress in finally adopting much-needed protection for the federal judiciary. We continue to emphasize the pressing need for personal protection of all its members and their families. They must be secure in their positions as the third branch of our government. At a minimum there must be sufficient funds and personnel for the Marshalls to fulfill their obligations. The U.S. Supreme Court also requires its technical capabilities to protect the work of the courts from illegal infiltration. A secure process requires continuous surveillance and auditing.

Our New Jersey courts require equivalent funding to parallel the federal requirements and must contain the resources to do so. We urge the chief justice to make the strongest appeal for these critical measures for the personal safety of our judicial branch and the technical support it requires to function.
