The New Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously passed an anti-SLAPP bill designed to stop frivolous lawsuits early on in the discovery process by providing an expedited motion and process to dismiss a “Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation.”

The committee met Monday and heard testimony in favor of New Jersey putting the statute in place. According to the bill statement, the “Uniform Public Expression Protection Act” (S2802/A4393) is based on the 2020 uniform act which was both drafted and approved by the Uniform Law Commission and would provide an expedited motion and process to dismiss a SLAPP.
