A panel including speakers from the highest levels of New Jersey government discussed the judicial vacancy crisis and the role of senatorial courtesy in the nomination process at a panel convened at the NJSBA 2023 Annual Meeting and Convention in Atlantic City on Wednesday.

In response to the lingering judicial vacancy crisis, the New Jersey State Bar Association convened a panel at its annual meeting, titled, “Avoiding the Next Judicial Vacancy Crisis—Is it Time to Change How Judges are Appointed in New Jersey?” Moderated by Thomas P. Scrivo, managing partner of O’Toole Scrivo, the panel covered current vacancies, the role of senatorial courtesy in the crisis, and possible solutions to resolve the shortage.
