A Washington, D.C., law firm partner who bought $30,000 in luxury items and travel for herself and her husband on her firm’s credit card and attempted to hide her purchases was permanently barred from practicing law in New Jersey after being disbarred in the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.

Azadeh Sophia Kokabi was promoted to partner at Sughrue Mion in D.C. in 2015. As a partner, she began to make purchases on the firm credit card for things such as luxury vacations, lavish dinners, expensive artwork and furniture, and personal travel expenses, according to the decision issued by the Disciplinary Review Board. Kokabi attempted to disguise the purchases as legitimate expenses in reports submitted to the firm’s accounting department.
