A U.S. District Court in New Jersey denied a motion for nationwide class certification against rental car companies Avis and Budget, but approved a subclass of preferred members.

The class action complaint, originally filed in September 2014 against defendants Avis Budget Rental Car Group (ABG) and ATS Processing Services, alleged “misrepresentations and omissions concerning charging [car rental customers] for alleged traffic infractions and an administrative fee without consent, without disclosure, and without the opportunity to contest the allegation.”
