A woman who was left partially paralyzed after childbirth agreed to a $13.5 million settlement in her Middlesex County suit, Mejia v. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, on Aug. 24.

Alexandra Mejia, then 18, was admitted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick on Oct. 25, 2019, to deliver her first child. Because of what Mejia alleged was the delayed diagnosis of an epidural hematoma, or an accumulation of blood in the lower back, she is now paralyzed in her lower legs, according to her attorney, Scott Parsons of O'Connor, Parsons, Lane & Noble in Springfield.
