A Middlesex County inmate reached a $1 million settlement for injuries she sustained after the correctional facility allegedly failed to follow hospital discharge instructions or to provide appropriate accommodations for her physical disability.

In Riley v. County of Middlesex, Jennifer Riley sustained a fractured knee and was treated at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold while in Marlboro Township Police Department custody. While she was in the hospital, the police department contacted the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office because Riley had an outstanding warrant, according to her complaint filed in Middlesex County Superior Court in October 2019.
