The estate of a 17-year-old killed in a drunken-driving accident agreed to a $1.2 million settlement of a dram shop suit on Jan. 10. Partial payment in the case was received as of Jan. 22.

According to the suit, Estate of Aziz v. Gem Set, Sarah Aziz was riding in a GMC Sierra driven by a friend, Jonathan Ortiz, when they were struck in the rear by an Acura TL operated by Tristan Rodriguez. Ortiz was driving at around 40 mph and Rodriguez was estimated to be traveling at 105 mph, said Craig S. Laughlin of Gale & Laughlin in Hazlet, who represented the deceased’s parents along with Emeka Nkwuo of Lomurro Law in Freehold.
